P to the Fourth Power

Fuel for the Creative Journey

In math, raising something to the fourth power means it multiplies itself repeatedly, resulting in a value much larger than before. Creativity works the same way — when we combine the right elements, the outcome is exponential.

For Kinetic Becoming, I have been reflecting on four elements that shape my work and propel me forward: Purpose, Passion, Perception, and Presentation — or what I refer to as P to the Fourth Power.

Purpose

Purpose is the “why” behind the work. It’s what pulls me into the studio when I’d rather take the day off. For this project, purpose is deeply personal — a self-portrait not just of my face but of my experiences, emotions, and growth as an artist. The purpose is to translate inner movement into a physical form.

Passion

Passion is the source of energy. Purpose provides direction, but passion supplies the fuel. When I’m sculpting, filming, or sketching, passion is what makes me lose track of time. It’s the heartbeat of creativity that keeps me going beyond the awkward middle stage when nothing looks quite right yet.

Perception

Perception is how I see — and how I choose to see. It’s the lens I bring to the project, the details I notice, and the meaning I assign to each choice. It’s also about understanding how others might experience the work and being open to seeing it through their eyes. Perception transforms a lump of clay into a story.

Presentation

Finally, presentation is how the work connects with the world. It’s not just about finishing a sculpture — it’s considering lighting, angles, interactivity, and how to draw viewers into the piece. Presentation acts as the bridge between my inner world and someone else’s experience.

When all four P’s align, the effort multiplies. Purpose guides, passion energizes, perception shapes, and presentation shares. Together, they generate momentum — a force that feels larger than me.

Kinetic Becoming is more than a project. It’s an experiment in living P to the fourth power. And just like math, the beauty isn’t just in the answer — it’s in the process of getting there.

Your Turn: What are your four P’s? How do they appear in your creative work, career, or life? Share them in the comments — I’d love to see what multiplies your momentum.

Hands to clay, eyes to the future.
