Art For Art’s Sake

Art for Art’s Sake – Why I Create

A phrase keeps running through my mind as I work on Kinetic Becoming: ‘art for art’s sake.’ It’s a brave statement, implying that art doesn’t need a reason, a lesson, or even a market. It just needs to be there, pure and simple.

That’s exactly where I find myself at this moment. This project isn’t just about selling a piece, winning a grant, or filling a gallery space. It’s truly about embracing the process, exploring new ideas, and taking risks just because something resonates with me.

Whenever I carve an eye out of clay, I don’t worry about impressing anyone. Instead, I focus on how it feels the gentle curve under my fingertips, how the form reflects the light, and how it almost seems to gaze back at me. This aspect of creating art feels both personal and relatable. It’s like having a quiet chat with the material, and sometimes, that’s all the connection you need.

In a world that’s often quick to ask, “What’s the point?” or “What’s the ROI?” creating art simply for its own sake can feel like a gentle act of rebellion. And perhaps, that rebellion is a vital part of what makes us human. Art has always been more than just decoration; it’s about fostering connection, sparking curiosity, and sharing feelings that words sometimes can’t fully capture.

Kinetic Becoming is my personal way of allowing myself the freedom to explore without needing any justification. I trust the process to develop naturally and at its own pace, for its own unique reasons.

Sometimes, art is just about its existence, and so are we, here to create it.

Hands to clay, eyes to the future.
