They say a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Today, I happily take mine, not on a road or trail, but across the welcoming threshold of my wife’s ceramic studio, Chester River Pottery. This marks Day One of developing Kinetic Becoming, a heartfelt project that’s been blossoming in my mind for months and is finally ready to come to life… in the most literal way.
My workstation is all ready to go, with tools neatly laid out and the clay waiting patiently. Now, it’s just about diving in, getting hands dirty, and letting the creative journey start.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing my journey right here. Including the finished pieces but also the funny missteps, exciting experiments, and those special little moments of discovery that make the process so rewarding.
My goal is to create at least five conceptual ceramic pieces that embody the Kinetic Becoming vision. This is an exciting change for me. My portfolio is centered around 2D work like graphic design, photography, and other visual media. Now, I’m enthusiastically exploring the tactile, three-dimensional world of ceramics, where form and surface beautifully tell the story.
The learning journey will be pretty steep, and that’s all part of the exciting experience. It is about reaching the goal, enjoying the process, which is like a story of gaining new skills, watching ideas come together, and concepts growing in three dimensions. It’s all about embracing the adventure and the growth that comes with it.
