Branding a Transformation
As a graphic artist who loves working in visual communications, I truly believe that every good project deserves more than just inspiration; it needs a strong identity. Whether it’s a client campaign or a personal exploration, the journey of transforming an idea into something visually cohesive is vital and rewarding. I’m really excited about my current project, Kinetic Becoming, which reflects this passion beautifully.
I’ve recently begun crafting a simple yet elegant visual identity for Kinetic Becoming, which marks my exciting journey into the world of kinetic art. Kinetic Becoming is a heartfelt exploration of this art form, representing a mixed-media body of work that beautifully combines clay, projection, movement, and storytelling. At the core of this project lies a universal theme: transformation.
As I immersed myself in one thumbnail sketch after another, a beautiful visual identity started to blossom. The image that took shape was a serene, gliding swan, accompanied by the tagline “In Search of the Swan Within.” Looking at this enchanting image, I saw a lovely parallel between my own journey of transformation and a delightful children’s fairy tale. This imagery of the swan is deeply rooted in one of the most cherished metaphors of change: Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Ugly Duckling.” Just as Andersen infused his life experiences into that heartfelt tale of growth and self-discovery, I’m joyfully weaving my own into Kinetic Becoming.
The story of the “ugly duckling” really strikes a chord with me, not only as a tale about discovering where we belong but also as a beautiful reminder of how time, challenges, and our creative spirit help us grow. The journey from those clumsy beginnings to a graceful transformation isn’t just a fairy tale; it’s deeply personal, always evolving, and full of energy.
Through this project, I’m exploring what it means to become through clay, through light, and through motion. By branding it with intentional imagery, I’m grounding that exploration in something both inviting and symbolic. The same is true for both me and a lump of clay; the swan, after all, was always there just waiting to be seen.
